The mission of the Cob Research Institute is to make cob legally accessible to all who wish to build.

To accomplish this, we are dedicated to three major goals:

Goal One

The scientific study of cob's material properties, including compressive strength, in plane and out-of-plane lateral resistance, earthquake resistance, fire resistance, and water resistance.

Goal Two

The development of standards for safe cob construction which can be easily understood by builders and officials alike and which retain cob’s character as an environmentally sound, user-friendly building technique.

Goal Three

The development and widespread adoption in North America of a building code for cob.
